“Knit In” is a participatory workshop led by Borinquen Gallo that inaugurates WhiteBox’s urban sustainability program, GreenBox@WhiteBox. GreenBox@WhiteBox responds to a range of ecological themes such as ecofeminism, de-extractivism, decarbonization, memory, and post-anthropocentrism. In this program, artists from a local, national and international context will explore and construct new epistemic frameworks for ecological transition strategies, allowing social, gender and ecological justice to prevail.
At “Knit In,” Borinquen Gallo facilitated a workshop knitting reclaimed plastic into a large installation highlighting the importance of civic participation and voting in connection to recycling, environmental sustainability and climate change. The event was co-organized and co-created with the participation of Pratt Civic Engagement Fellow Mary Mattingly and artist Miranda Ratner, Pratt Institute students and the public. The installation was on display at GreenBox during the exhibition BALLOTS NOT BULLETS. Workshop address: WhiteBox 9 Avenue B, New York, NY 10009
