PREACHING TO THE CHOIR AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH

A BLACKLIVES MATTER ODYSSEY

by Stanley Wayne Mathis

Monday Sept 13th, 2021 @ 6-8PM

Young BLM documentary student Activist Justice Jamal Obatala attends the Annual AfroPunk Festival in New York City. One of many black festivals he has frequented since he was a little boy. However this year’s celebration takes him on a unique path when he befriends a homeless woman known as Neighborhood Nana throughout the community. He documents the entire experience on his cell phone. Is he the documenter or the documented? Come! join the festivities and witness SANKOFA! Let’s all go back, and retrieve what is rightfully OURS!

Performances and Artist Reception

With the participation of Paul Ray and guest of honor Tunji Dada

Observer/Interloper/Guest is a sonic-visual serialized work examining the process of acceptance when encountering the so- called “other”.  The audio only version aims to navigate sound as a manifestation of humanity and how sincerity driven persistence prevails as communion.
