The Company
Biliana K is a startup hybrid, the result of merging two different formats. Combining the fundamentals of a tech company with those of an artwork in order to provide a unique experience for the consumer, it thus transforms into an art collector. The company is pending patent application in the US and further assessment of detailed processes will be provided for the first time at the IDTechEx Show in Berlin in 2018. Biliana K will introduce this new concept of Connected Art and showcase the first end format artwork applications.
Artist Statement
My company is based on my decades of artistic experience and research of the state of dematerialization, which has up to 2016 always been a process that took place only in the art world. With progress over the years, my artwork has become essentially digital with the first digital painting completed in 2004 and the first digital sculpture completed in 2007.
The process of digitization is envisioned as a visual rapture that literally destroys traditional codes of visual representation. Inevitably, over time this path led me to establish an artistic practice based on fully automated mechanical and technological digital data processes that defined the actual artwork, beyond the limits of traditional visual representation.
In 2016, the first digital sculpture in an augmented reality application took place. In the face of it, a sense of uncertainty began to grow about what exactly it was and how to define it.
The questions were at once disturbing and exhilarating—
First, what do you do with an artwork that it completely immaterial and intangible, fully in technological format with no visual content whatsoever?
Second, how do you show and communicate an artwork in application format? Are galleries and museums still the place for this immaterial entity based exclusively on digital practices?
What platform does this immaterial entity belong to? The fundamental question that I asked myself was: What is art is the 21st century? The end of representation as we know it! The end of the body of an artwork as the definable entity of the representation of reality. The end of art as we know it, as we understand it, as we relate to it.
I offer you the first immaterial and intangible body of art work/APP/artwork, entirely nurtured by systems. The IoT until now exclusively destined to support technological entities. My company uses all possible past, present, and future IoT nodes deployed across the entire ecosystem in order to feed on data to enable the creation of a new form of art: Connected Art.
The Concept
Connected Art
Biliana K uses all possible IoT nodes deployed across the entire IoT ecosystem to feed on data for the creation of a new form of art: Connected Art. Apps are hybrid entities (Connected Art), combining the fundamentals of the Internet of Things, application development, digital ecosystem, and VR technology with those of a unique artwork. The concept of a Connected Art experience is embedded in the IoT as the one and only possible way for limitless interactions and distribution of the immaterial app/artwork.
The Product
The app-artwork is a new end product, founded on the basis of absurd processing of data that brings human emotion into the IoT as a value and investment, rewriting the essentials of business models and social behavior in the digital landscape—unique data in a unique autonomous format.
The Context
It exploits the ecosystem of IoT on an emotional level, leading to the fundamental question of human emotion and experience in the age of VR and AI. The app exploits the human addiction to emotions by transplanting it into the digital universe—the app/artwork exists exclusively in the digital universe, where it was conceived, and is the only environment where it can be experienced.
The Disruption
Connected Art can be seen as a new and unknown dimension of the IoT, industry 4.0 & 5.0 and the Digitization of Things. Our business model is based on the hybrid concept that underlies Connected Art: Limitless distribution and interaction between consumer and art product, sing the integrity of the IoT infrastructure and all its underlying technologies. Connected Art could become the basis for a new art industry with a disruptive business model, as the process of artistic creation has been rooted in the ecosystem of the traditional art world then implanted into the IoT. The goal is to achieve a constantly expanding digital mass of data that defines the immaterial body of the artwork, creating an infinite body of artwork that contains and describes everything of what it means to be human. The maximum amount of data in the minimum amount of space.
The Platform
As a result, Biliana K has adopted a single market behavior, trying to embed Connected Art as one of the fundamental aspects of the IoT, with focus in particular on the growing markets for smart homes and smart cities. The IoT platform is seen as a disruptive force where the app/artwork thrives and nurtures itself based on indiscriminate limitless distribution/interaction with the consumer/collector, thus transforming the old social models into a social construct based exclusively on the experience of and contact with the infinite body of the app/artwork.
